Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe – Warm Welcomes and Smoking Thunder

Zimbabwe is one of Southern Africa’s most rewarding safari destinations — and also one of the friendliest. The people here are known for their hospitality, humour, and deep pride in their country. For travellers coming from Namibia, Zimbabwe adds not just new landscapes and wildlife, but also a warm, engaging cultural energy that leaves a lasting impression.
Most visitors cross into Zimbabwe to experience the mighty Victoria Falls, but there’s much more to explore.

Why Add Zimbabwe to Your Namibia Safari?

Zimbabwe naturally complements Namibia’s northeast, particularly for those concluding a trip through the Zambezi Region. Victoria Falls town is just across the border from Kasane (Botswana) or Katima Mulilo (via Zambia), making it an ideal next stop. While Namibia is known for space and solitude, Zimbabwe offers a richer human element.
With excellent game viewing, comfortable lodges, and flexible onward routing, Zimbabwe seamlessly integrates into a cross-border journey — whether for a short visit or a more in-depth exploration.

Highlights of Zimbabwe

Victoria Falls
A must-see destination and one of the natural wonders of the world. The Zimbabwean side often offers the best panoramic views, along with easy access to the vibrant town, featuring restaurants, markets, and various adventure activities.
Hwange National Park
Zimbabwe’s largest and most diverse park, home to large elephant herds, lions, wild dogs, and a range of habitats. Easily reached by road or short flight from Victoria Falls.
Matobo Hills
A surreal landscape of balancing granite boulders and ancient rock art. The area is also home to the white rhino and has strong cultural and spiritual significance.
Zambezi River (upstream of the Falls)
Enjoy canoeing, sunset cruises, birding, and relaxed riverside stays — perfect for a peaceful break before or after Namibia’s drier regions.

How It Combines With Namibia

Zimbabwe is most often accessed from Namibia via Kasane (Botswana) or Katima Mulilo (Zambia), making it a convenient stop after exploring Namibia’s Zambezi Region. A few nights in Victoria Falls followed by a safari in Hwange make for a natural add-on before returning home or continuing onward.
This route is popular for both guided and independent travellers. It can easily be incorporated into a circular Southern Africa itinerary. Flights from Victoria Falls to Windhoek, Johannesburg, or Cape Town simplify logistics.

When to Travel

The best time to visit Zimbabwe is from May to October, when wildlife viewing is at its best and rainfall is low. Victoria Falls is at peak flow from February to June, but the views remain dramatic year-round. Hwange is especially rewarding from July onward as water becomes scarce and animals gather at waterholes.
