Windhoek is Namibia’s capital city and located almost at the geographical epicentre of the country making it the perfect place to start and end your Namibian journey. Located in a basin between the Khomas Hochland, Aus and Eros Mountains, the city itself lies at around 1700m above sea level making it the 3rd highest capital city in Africa.
The centre of this clean, organized city can at times remind you of a small European city, but undoubtedly has that unique African blend of culture and tradition and you will immediately feel at home in this charming city. Quality restaurants and modern shops will also ensure that you will be well taken care of and be able to relax and enjoy the first or last night of your holiday in comfort.
For those that dedicate more than just a night to our ‘big city’ spend a little time learning about the history on a free city walking tour, or explore more with a drive through the City & Township. For those that want to get more of a nature fix, opt for a drive or hike around the nearby Daan Viljoen Game Reserve where you can get your first or last wildlife fix spotting everything from zebra to giraffe to birds and baboons or a game drive on any of the surrounding private game reserves.
For those arriving after, and departing before noon, a night in Windhoek is recommended and there is a range of hotel options from backpackers to mid range hotels to luxury hotels both in and just outside the city to spend your first or last night.
